We eat a lot of Mexican food around here. And I’m always trying new combinations and ratios of ingredients for homemade taco seasoning. The stuff that comes in the little store-bought packets contains too many mystery ingredients for me. And this stuff is super easy to throw together. It takes about five minutes to mix up a batch, and it will keep in the pantry in a little jar for a long time. Here is our new favorite recipe for homemade taco seasoning.
Homemade Taco Seasoning
- 2 Tbsp. chili powder
- 2 Tbsp. cumin
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. onion powder
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. garlic powder
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. Paprika (I use smoked and it’s GOOD!)
- 3 tsp. oregano
- 1/8-1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Store in a jam-sized mason jar. Makes enough for 3 batches of tacos.
Brown 1 pound of ground beef in a skillet. Add 3 Tbsp. taco seasoning and 1/3 cup water. Stir well and cook over medium heat until liquid evaporates. Serve in taco shells, on nachos, or in quesadillas.
